Rhode Island One Of The Costliest Places To Get A Degree: Report

College affordability is a hot issue in America, with politicians and students speaking out about the incredibly high cost of higher education. According to a new ranking, Rhode Island is one of the least-affordability states in the nation when it comes to the cost of getting a college degree.

The Cost Guys ranked the affordability of college in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, weighing the average tuition during the 2017-18 school year, median state income and debt-to-earnings ratio to create a final score, the lower, the better. With a final score of 36.2, Rhode Island ranks 42 out of 51.

Here's a look at the 10 most expensive states to get a college degree.

2. Pennsylvania (50)
3. Missouri (49)
4. Iowa (48)
5. Oregon (47)
6. Nebraska (46)
7. Illinois (45)
8. New York (44)
9. Florida (43)
10. Rhode Island (42)

In 2017, the average tuition in Rhode Island was $30,470, while the median state income was $66,390. The ranking did not take financial aid into consideration when making the ranking.

At the other end of the list, Hawaii comes out on top, ranked the most affordable state to get a college degree. Here's a list of the top 10.
