Rhode Island Weather: High Wind Warning Ahead Of Coastal Storm
Winds are expected to reach 60 mph in coastal areas of the state.

NEWPORT, RI — If you've already decorated your yard for the holiday season, be sure to secure those inflatable snow globes and light-up reindeer. A high wind advisory is in place across Rhode Island Monday, with winds as high as 60 mph expected in parts of the state.
A storm is expected to hit the state throughout the afternoon, bringing strong wind gusts and heavy rain. Coastal areas will be hit hardest, with the highest winds likely in the East Bay and southern coast of the state.

While the high wind advisory expires early Tuesday morning, the rain is expected to stick around, with showers in the forecast until Wednesday afternoon.

Showers, mainly after 11 a.m. The rain could be heavy at times. Patchy fog after 1 p.m. High near 61. Windy, with an east wind 6 to 16 mph increasing to 18 to 28 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 55 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Monday Night
Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 4 a.m., then a slight chance of showers after 5am. Patchy fog before 4 a.m., then patchy fog after 5 a.m. Low around 56. Windy, with a south wind 19 to 29 mph decreasing to 9 to 19 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 55 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Tuesday
A chance of showers, mainly before 7 a.m. Patchy fog before 7 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 49 by 5 p.m. South wind 9 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
Tuesday Night
A slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37. Southwest wind 7 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
Wednesday
A slight chance of showers before 3 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 47. Southwest wind 8 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
