RI Bridges Close at Midnight

The bridges will remain closed indefinitely during the storm.

Coinciding with a statewide travel ban at midnight, Col. Steve O’Donell, superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police, announced that the Mt. Hope, Jamestown and Claiborne Pell (Newport) Bridges will be closed to traffic at midnight.

The closures will remain in place indefinitely.

“Plan accordingly. Unknown when they will open,” the state police said on Twitter.

Officials are urging all Rhode Islanders to stay get off the roads by 8 p.m. Monday and stay hunkered down during what could be an epic snowstorm with periods of blizzard conditions and strong winds.

Coastal flooding is possible overnight during high tide at around 1 a.m. along the Rhode Island coast.
