RI Gun Tasks Force Calls For Magazine Limits And Age Restrictions
Long-barreled guns' age restrictions would be the same as they are for handguns if the recommendations become law.

A Rhode Island task force formed to study the state's gun laws released a series of recommendations which included banning high-capacity magazines and raising the age to buy long-barreled (rifles, shotgun) guns from 18 to 21.
The task force defined a high-capacity magazine as having more than 10 rounds of ammunition. Long-barreled guns' age restrictions would be the same as they are for handguns if the recommendations become law.
The recommendations released late Thursday afternoon do not include a ban on military-style assault weapons. Instead, the report recommends a measure requiring those types of weapons to be registered with state or local law enforcement.

Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo formed the 43-member task force in April shortly after the mass school shooting in Parkland, Florida. This 43-member task force includes an emergency physician and a former state police major who is also a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA).
Raimondo told the Associated Press, "We're going to save a lot of lives," if the group's recommendations are turned into policy.
