RI Outage Update: 800 Still Without Power

National Grid estimated that most residents will be back online by the end of the day Saturday or Sunday morning.

Thousands of Rhode Islanders are back online after a powerful wind storm knocked out power to more than 35,000 National Grid customers on Thursday night. As of Saturday afternoon, just under 800 were still awaiting restoration, with estimates ranging from later in the evening to 8 a.m. on Sunday.

Those still without power can check the status of their outage using National Grid's interactive power outage map.

More than 35,000 Rhode Islanders started the month off in the dark after high winds knocked down trees and wires across the state Thursday night into early Friday morning. Power restoration went a lot quicker this time around compared to the nor'easter two weeks ago, National Grid spokesman Ted Kresse said, thanks to calm winds on Friday.

"Our crews have been making steady progress throughout the day," Kresse said in an email. "While there are still some strong gusts out there, the conditions are more favorable than what we faced with the storm two weeks ago."

Remaining outages have restoration times varying from 4 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. on Sunday.
