RI Thanksgiving Weather: How Low Tonight's Record Cold Will Drop

Christmas is still a month away, but we're getting a gift from the North Pole this week. What could end up being the coldest Thanksgiving air on record is coming down to Rhode Island directly from Santa's HQ, dropping temperatures as low as 5 degrees below zero in Massachusetts.

Many in Massachusetts will be lucky to feel like it's warmer than zero degrees out Wednesday night. 'Real feel' temperatures, which is how cold it feels when wind chills are factored in, will drop between 0 and. The highest minimum temperature tonight could be 4 degrees in balmy Block Island.

The National Weather Service said "record breaking cold is a good bet." That's because the arctic air will be made worse by wind gusts of up to 40 miles per hour Thursday. And don't expect it to be too much warmer for early Black Friday shopping.

The arctic cold front may also be bring localized snow squalls between 3-8 p.m. There is potentially a high-risk impact for a few locations, the NWS warned in a hazardous weather outlook.

"The potential exists for brief heavy snow, whiteout conditions, strong winds and slippery roadways with any snow squall," the weather service said.
