RHODE ISLAND — The state's first measurable snow of the season is possibly in the forecast for this weekend. A winter storm headed for New England could drop up to three inches of snow in parts of Rhode Island Sunday afternoon into Monday morning.

Rhode Island will feel lesser impacts from the storm compared to its New England neighbors. Nearby Massachusetts is expected to see up to six inches of snow, while in New Hampshire accumulation could top a foot.

According to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service, any snow accumulation seen in Rhode Island will be in the northern half of the state, where up to three inches could fall. Along the southern coast and East Bay, however, little to no accumulation is expected.

With temperatures expected to hover just above freezing on Sunday, snow will likely mix with rain, limiting overall accumulation. By midnight, the snow is forecasted to change over to all rain, with more wintry mix likely throughout the day on Monday.
