RI Weather: First Snowflakes Of The Season Could Fall This Week

While it will hardly be enough to break out the sleds or build a snowman, Rhode Island could see its first snowfall of the season later this week. According to the latest forecast from The National Weather Service, a rain-snow mix will fall throughout the state from Thursday night through Friday.

Most of the week will be a mixed bag. After a sunny day on Monday, there's a chance of showers starting during the evening hours and during the day on Tuesday. Wednesday will be another lovely, if chilly day, with sunny skies and a high of 50 degrees.

The nasty weather is expected to move in on Thursday night with showers ahead of possible rain and show on Friday. Whether it's more rain or snow that falls depends on the temperature, which will hover just above freezing throughout the day.

Sunny, with a high near 52. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon.

Monday Night
A slight chance of showers after 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 44. South wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Tuesday
A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. South wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night
A chance of showers, mainly between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 40. Northwest wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Wednesday
Sunny, with a high near 50. West wind 8 to 11 mph.

A slight chance of showers before 11 p.m., then a slight chance of rain after 4 a.m. Mostly clear, with a low around 39. Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

A chance of rain after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 54. West wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.
