RI Weather Forecast: Up To 10 Inches In Monday Nor'easter

The third major storm in as many weeks is heading our way.

The projected track of an offshore storm has shifted, bringing what would be the third storm in three weeks closer to Southern New England. Forecasters are now warning of as much as 10 inches of snow Monday night into Tuesday for what has become a storm-weary region.

The National Weather Service made it clear predictions this far out are subject to change and serve as more of a "heads-up." Still, the weather service said the storm is expected to "deepen as it brushes by Southern New England," which could bring totals of up to 10 inches across Rhode Island and a foot across Massachusetts Monday night into Tuesday.

"Our confidence with this storm system and our forecast remains low as there's still a range of possibilities with respect to the storm track and potential outcomes," the NWS said.

Even with the uncertainty, the NWS said it's confident that snow will accumulate across Southern New England. The expected snowfall total in Rhode Island forecasts, released late Saturday afternoon, is closer to 3-4 inches. It's unlikely, but possible, that the Ocean State avoids snow altogether. It's also possible, and a bit more likely, that the high-end amounts of 10 inches are realized. Stay tuned to your local Patch for the latest updates.
