RI Weather Forecast: Alberto Pushing Storms Our Way This Weekend

The first storm of the 2018 season has been named, and it may indirectly be the cause of heavy downpours.

The National Hurricane Center last weekend named the first storm of the 2018 season. Now forecasters are warning of potential downpours and flash floods in the Northeast as Alberto makes its way north. Any rainfall New England sees over the next 5 days would be an indirect result of the storm rather than the storm itself, AccuWeather said.

The good news for Rhode Island is that the heavy rain is expected to halt right before it gets here, and much of New England is currently slated to dodge much of the rain and thunderstorms. Still, it doesn't take much to push that line east when we are still days away. Friday is of particular concern.

"By Friday evening, showers and thunderstorms may occur at any time in all but the immediate New England coast," AccuWeather senior meteorologist Brett Anderson said. A rush of tropical air could give way to up to 5 inches of rain locally wherever the rain does come.

Frustratingly enough, it looks like outdoor summertime activities will be on hold for another weekend. On Friday and Saturday the Weather Channel is calling for 70 degrees and rain, and while the rain could dry up Saturday and Sunday, it'll still be cloudy in the 50s.
