RI Weather Forecast: Flash Flood Watch

A real lot of rain can come down very quickly today.

A flash flood watch has been issued for all of Rhode Island. The watch is in effect until 9 p.m. Flash flood watches can mean torrential downpours that quickly flood area, particularly ones with poor drainage. You want to be careful to see if the watches give way to flash flood warnings.

Much of Southeastern Mass. is also under a flash flood watch. Nearly all of the Bay State is also under a hazardous weather outlook. Parts of the Cape last week were flooded to the point of road closures.

The NWS says to expect what could be up to 3-4 inches of rainfall per hour, though 1-2 inches seems more likely. "Showers and thunderstorms will develop late this morning into the afternoon before dissipating shortly after sunset."

If you are going through Mass., the hazardous weather outlook up there is also for thunderstorms and heavy gusts of wind. The main threat for the worst of it is mostly in the P.M. hours. Wednesday will remain hot and humid despite the pending storms.

All of Southern New England is at a marginal risk for severe weather.

Thursday could be much of the same, the NWS warns.
