RI Weather Forecast: Heavy Downpours, T-Storms Coming Today

The lovely morning weather will soon give way to locally heavy downpours, soaking the Friday commute home.

More heavy downpours are expected today as some lovely morning weather gets washed out by a second rainstorm in three days. The National Weather Service said widespread rains should begin in the afternoon and intensify with locally heavy bursts for some people's Friday commute home. As of 9 a.m., no flood advisories were issued.

The rain should enter the area around 1 p.m. and cover all of Rhode Island and Southeastern Mass. by 2 p.m. Things should dry up around 6-7 p.m. It's "going to make for some PM commute headaches," the NWS said. You can see the radar simulation below:

A bit of thunder could roll in during the worst of it. Most of Rhode Island is expected to get a half inch of rain.
