RI Weather Forecast: Snow Totals Increase For Saturday's Storm

Brace for even more snow than originally expected. Plus, a winter storm watch put into effect.

The forecast for the storm that was supposed to be rain, then just a few inches of snow, is getting pretty bold. The National Weather Service on Friday morning said Saturday night's storm will bring between 6-8 inches across Rhode Island ... despite an upcoming "heat wave" of 60-degree temperatures.

A winter storm watch has been issued for all of Rhode Island and the southern part of Massachusetts, including Suffolk, Bristol, Norfolk, and Plymouth counties. That's where the heaviest amount of snow - between 6-8 inches - is expected. The forecast for the southern tip of Rhode Island is 4-6 inches, and even less for Block Island.

Friday morning's temperatures were pretty mild, but that will change as we freeze up tonight. Saturday's temperatures will also be hovering below freezing leading into the overnight storm. Forecasters are pegging this storm to be over by daybreak Sunday.

Meanwhile forecasters are saying next week will see back-to-back days over 60. Right now Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to see high temperatures of 63 degrees. That precedes highs of at least 40 degrees every day heading into March.
