RI Weather: Heavy Rainfall To Accompany Drastic Warm-Up This Week

Forecasters are expecting it get back into the 40s and 50s to help thaw out this deep freeze, though the warm-up will come with heavy rainfall. The National Weather Service is warning of 2 to 3 inches of rain Wednesday night into Thursday, just days after a storm dumped several inches of snow, sleet and freezing rain across the region.

The ice will be relenting by the time the rains fall, but at the strong risk of floods. Wednesday will see high temperatures in the mid-40s, and Thursday will see highs in the mid-50s. All the ice we are buried under will be melting, and the rainstorm will exacerbate the issue. Where the snow and ice doesn't yet melt, drainage blocking could be a problem.

This comes 72 hours after some all-time wind chills knocked the real-feel temperature down to around negative-15.

The NWS is expecting the worst of the rain to hit all of Rhode Island, with 2-3 inches expected in here and in Southeastern Mass. The rain will start late Wednesday night and persist into Thursday. Patch will have more details on the updated forecasts when they become available.
