RI Weather: High Surf Advisory In Effect Ahead Of Stormy Day

Expect a humid day with the possibility for strong winds and heavy rain during passing thunderstorms.

A muggy, stormy day is expected in Rhode Island Thursday, with showers and thunderstorms likely throughout the day. Beachgoers are encouraged to use caution, as a high-surf advisory is in place along Rhode Island's coast.

Showers and scattered thunderstorms are possible throughout the late morning and afternoon, followed by the chance for a thunderstorm again after 5 p.m. Periods of heavy rain and strong winds are possible during these passing storms. Timing of the showers is shown in the model below.

High temperatures will top out around 74 degrees, which, combined with high humidity, will make for a muggy day.

A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Cloudy, with a high near 74. South wind 14 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
