RI Weather: One More (Serious) Heat Wave

August isn't going quietly. A heat wave is expected for this week as kids head back to school in many districts around Rhode Island, and it should break just in time for September.

Monday will be hot, with temperatures in the high 80s, but the real heat starts midweek. Tuesday, Wednesday, and perhaps Thursday are expected to be sunny with temperatures in the mid-to-high 90s and heat indices hovering around 105. Beach bums: Assemble!

The National Weather Service said a hazardous weather outlook will be in effect as "heat advisories will likely be needed" Tuesday, Wednesday, and possibly Thursday. There is also a chance of excessive heat warnings.

On Thursday, the heat could come with thunderstorms.

When the temperatures break at the end of the week, they'll be back in the low 70s and save for a brief spike, might not be back in the 80s any time soon.

Tuesday night - Mostly clear, with a low around 74. West wind 6 to 8 mph.

Wednesday - Sunny, with a high near 93.

Thursday - A chance of showers and thunderstorms between 1pm and 4pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 92. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Thursday night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66.

Friday - A chance of showers after 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 78. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Friday night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 62.

Saturday - Partly sunny, with a high near 76.

Saturday night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 64.

Sunday - Partly sunny, with a high near 79.
