RI Weather Outlook: Winter Storm Coming Wednesday

The state dodged a winter storm watch, but it'll still be messy.

Another sloppy winter storm is coming to muck up our week. Forecasters are warning of several inches of snow - as well as a wintry mix and some good ol' rain - hitting the region on Wednesday.

Rhode Island dodged the winter storm watch that hit most of Massachusetts. It's also potentially dodging much of the snow expected for the area. The northern part of Rhode Island is the most likely spot to get more than 4 inches of snow, but even that looks to be a long shot.

Just because we might miss the snow, it doesn't mean we won't get wet. Sleet and freezing rain will hammer much of the state. The farther south you are, the more likely to see just rain. For you commuters, Southeastern Mass. is also likely to miss the snow, but it isn't in the clear either.

The timing of the storm is set for Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday evening. The forecast will be much clearer come Tuesday. What's obvious is the roads will be a mess Wednesday night, and it's worth keeping an eye on potential school closings Thursday morning.
