The northern parts of Rhode Island could wake up to as much as 4 inches of snow on Saturday. A large storm, expected to drop up to 8 inches of snow in parts of Massachusetts overnight, is expected to clip the top of Rhode Island, bringing some rare mid-April snow accumulation.

Most of the state will be spared, according to the latest projections from the National Weather Service. The map only shows snowfall north of Providence, with the highest accumulation likely in the northwest corner of the state.

The heaviest snowfall will be after midnight, changing over to rain by morning. Across the state, rain and fog are in the forecast for Saturday ahead of a sunny, springlike day Sunday.
