RI Weather: Sleet, Ice On The Way

RHODE ISLAND - After a week of mild weather surrounding the Christmas holiday, expect some nasty weather as we close out the weekend. Ice pellets, sleet and freezing rain are all in the forecast, starting Sunday night and continuing throughout Monday.

Compared to elsewhere in New England, Rhode Island is getting it easy. An ice storm warning has been issued in Western Massachusetts, where there is expected to be more than half and inch of ice.

Here in Rhode Island, the nasty weather is expected to arrive between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., depending on where you are in the state.

Rain before 3am, then rain and sleet. Low around 33. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Little or no sleet accumulation expected.

Rain and sleet. High near 34. East wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Little or no sleet accumulation expected.

Rain and sleet, becoming all rain after 9pm. Low around 34. East wind 9 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Little or no sleet accumulation expected.

Tuesday
Rain, mainly before 9am. High near 46. Northeast wind 5 to 7 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
