RI Weather: Thunderstorms Could Bring Gusty Winds, Hail

A band of showers and thunderstorms are expected to hit Rhode Island throughout the afternoon.

A band of showers and thunderstorms could bring periods of heavy rain, gusty winds and even hail to most of southern New England Tuesday afternoon, including Rhode Island.

A special weather statement and hazardous weather outlook were issued for all of Rhode Island by the National Weather Service. Rhode Island has a "marginal" risk of severe weather, meaning the main concerns will be gusty, damaging wind, small hail and localized flash flooding.

Showers and thunderstorms are possible in Rhode Island starting at 1 p.m., tapering off heading into the evening hours. Once skies clear, several days of clear weather are in the forecast, with highs in the upper 70s. There's another chance for showers Friday afternoon and evening, ahead of a clear weekend.
