RHODE ISLAND — The snow is still falling in Rhode Island, leading to a last-minute snow day for students around the state. While most public schools were slated to have a one-hour delay Tuesday as of Monday night, several districts including Coventry, Chariho, Exeter-West Greenwich and more changed to a full snow day.

Several inches of heavy, wet snow fell overnight, leading to a "very slow and treacherous commute" this morning across the region, the National Weather Service said. Here in Rhode Island, the snow is expected to change over to rain in the early afternoon before tapering off completely for a mostly sunny afternoon and clear evening.

Once the snow ends, several days of cold weather will mean that the snow may not go anywhere anytime soon. On Wednesday through Friday, the high temperature is only expected to reach 40 degrees, with a chance of showers on Friday afternoon that could melt what snow is left on yards and sidewalks.
