'Safe And Spooky Halloween' Encourages RI Kids To Stay Safe

Rhode Island students have the opportunity to win a cash prize by sharing their socially distant Halloween plans.

Halloween is fast approaching, and Rhode Islanders are asked to forgo the usual parties and trick-or-treat crowds to help slow the spread of the coronavirus. To help encourage kids to get creative with their spooky, socially distant celebrations, the Rhode Island Department of Education is sponsoring a contest, with cash prizes for the winners.

Three winners each will be selected from four categories: early learning, elementary school , middle school and high school. Each winner will receive a $50 cash prize.

Ideas can be submitted on the Back To School RI website. Submissions will be accepted until 4 p.m. on Oct. 27. All ideas are welcome, Gov. Gina Raimondo said, such as virtual pumpkin carving parties or "candy chutes" to allow for socially-distant distribution.
