Santa's Arrival In Newport Delayed By Bad Weather
"The weather forecast doesn't look very hospitable, and Rudolph wasn't available for the evening to lead the way," Newport police said.
NEWPORT, RI — A rather grinchy forecast has delayed Santa Claus's arrival in Newport from Tuesday to Wednesday evening, Newport police said. The big man will make appearances in the City By Sea every Tuesday and Thursday evening, starting this week.
"The weather forecast doesn't look very hospitable, and Rudolph wasn't available for the evening to lead the way," Newport police said. Rudolph, no doubt, is busy resting up at the North Pole in case his services will be needed on Christmas Eve.
If you can't make it this week, Santa will make four stops in total on Dec. 11, 12, 17 and 19. He and his Newport police and fire escort will leave fire station two on Old Fort Road at 5 p.m., following a set route around the city, which can be found on the city's website. Families can also track his progress using the tracking app GLYMPSE.

Parents are asked to stay with their children when going to greet Santa from the sidewalk, and are asked to stay out of the road as he passes by. "Because he has to return to the North Pole to prepare for Christmas," he will be unable to stop and take photos with kids, police said.
