Second Suspect Surrenders to Police After Festival Field Fight

A fight at Festival Field apartments on April 11 resulted in two arrest warrants after the victim wanted to press charges.

NEWPORT, RI—Vincent G. Yates, 47, of Newport, turned himself into police Tuesday at 9:25 a.m., police said. He was wanted in connection with a fight April 11 at the Festival Field apartments. According to the arrest report, Yates and Kareem Cooper, 20, allegedly jumped a man in the parking lot. The victim's girl friend called officers and identified the two suspects, who had fled after people in the apartment building ran out and broke up the fight.

The victim told officers he wanted to press charges, and police issued arrest warrants for the two suspects. They were charged with Simple Assault and Battery, which is a misdemeanor. Cooper turned himself in at the police station on Monday.
