Seven Candidates Filed For The District 13 Senate Seat

The deadline for candidate to file to run for the District 13 Senate seat ended at 4 Friday. Seven declared. All are from Newport.

NEWPORT, RI — Seven candidates have emerged to battle for the District 13 Senate seat, which became vacant when M. Teresa Paiva Weed resigned earlier this year. Four Democrats, one Republican, one Green Party member, and one Independent will make up the field. Michael W. Smith is the lone Republican. The four Democrats — David Joseph Allard, David C. Hanos, Jr., Dawn Euer, and John Florez — will face a Primary. Gregory W. Larson is running as the Green Party candidate, and Kimberly A. Ripoli is an Independent.

The district represents Jamestown and Newport. But no Jamestowners are running, Town Clerk Cheryl Fernstrom confirmed Friday. All seven candidates are from Newport.
