Teen Charged For Throwing Rock Through School Window

A 13-year-old broke a window at the Pell Elementary School. He brought the rocks for a friend who smashed an electrical box at the school.

NEWPORT, RI — A 13-year-old from Park Holm was charged with vandalism after he and a friend damaged property at the Pell Elementary School, police said. The incident was reported May 22 at 8:59 a.m., police said. On Thursday, the boy and his mother met officers at the Newport Police station where he was read his rights. His name is not being released because of his age, and the matter will be handled in juvenile court.

Police asked the youngster if he knew anything about recent vandalism at the Pell School. He replied his friend has smashed an electrical box at the school. The officer then asked about a broken window. The teen allegedly replied he broke the window with a rock. He brought the rocks to school for the friend who smashed the electrical box, he said.

Police charged him on June 8 at 5:21 p.m. and released him to his mother's custody.
