Thames Street To Close Wednesday Night: Police

NEWPORT, RI— Thames Street will be closed to through traffic from Memorial Boulevard at 8 p.m. Wednesday. The reason is National Grid Gas will again be conducting required maintenance on the gas main on lower Thames Street, police said.

A Newport Police Officer will be stationed at Memorial Boulevard and Thames to help motorists who must access businesses and residences located between Memorial and Young Street. Please inform the police officer at
this location if you need to access this closed area. All other motorists
will be required to use Bellevue Avenue and can access lower Thames Street
via Howard Street.

Workers will be excavating the road in the area of Thames Street at Young Street. The roadway will be fully open by Thursday morning's commute.
