Thrillist Says Newport's Mission has Best Burger in RI
It was a close battle, but Mission's special sauce and caramelized onions sealed the deal.

There are a lot of good places to get a burger in Rhode Island, let alone Newport. But Newport is the place to be to get the best burger in the state, according to food and travel website Thrillist.com.
“It might be the sauce. The house-made “Mission Sauce,” which is a concoction of ketchup, aioli, cornichons, capers, fines herbes, and brandy. Or maybe the addition of the caramelized onions on that house-ground thick, juicy burger. Or the combination with the melty American cheese,” the website said in its pick of the best burgers in all 50 states. “Or maybe all the dinosaur figurines. Either way, Mission ensured the battle for best burger in Rhode Island wasn’t very close.”
What wasn’t mentioned is that Mission’s handmade burgers and dogs don’t come with a big price tag. The classic mission is just $7 — talk about a value meal!

The popular city eatery already has enjoyed good word of mouth in Newport, so the publicity from the Thrillist pick is bound to keep them even busier behind the line.
“Special shoutout to all our rad customers for keeping the burger love going all winter long,” the restaurant said on its Facebook page.

Faithful customers are pleased to see Mission get the nod, but based on their comments, they aren’t surprised.
“I didn’t even eat burgers until I ate a Mission burger,” said Alison Rhea. “Now I need my fix about once a week.”
Located at 29 Marlborough St. in Newport, Mission is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and from noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
Along with burgers on the menu, they have dogs, falafel, fries, and if you wish they had more, tsk — they have a sister restaurant: tsk, Thames Street Kitchen.
