Thunderstorms Could Bring Street Flooding, Hail To Parts Of RI

Scattered showers and thunderstorms could bring periods of torrential rain and possible street flooding in Rhode Island Tuesday afternoon, ahead of a week of showers and potentially severe weather.

Small hail and gusty winds are possible as the storms move across the region. The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement for most of the state. Residents are encouraged to get inside until the storms pass, and are reminded not to try to drive through a flooded street or under downed tree branches or electrical wires.

The storms are expected to taper off overnight before a wet day Wednesday and possible thunderstorms Thursday.

Tuesday Afternoon
A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Cloudy, with a high near 74. East wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tuesday Night
A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11pm, then a slight chance of showers. Patchy fog after 4am. Otherwise, cloudy, with a low around 63. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday
A chance of showers before noon, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between noon and 5pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
