Tolls To Spike On Newport Bridge For Motorists With Misplaced Transponders: RITBA
The only Rhode Islanders who pay a bridge toll will lose the local discount if their transponders are improperly mounted.

NEWPORT, RI — Starting Monday, E-ZPass drivers will lose the discount on Newport Pell Bridge tolls if their transponders aren't mounted inside the windshield to the right (and behind) the rear view mirror. This means no more holding the transponder and waving it at the electronic reader. Instructions to properly mount a transponder can also be found online at www.ezpassritba.com.
If fined, instead of the 83 cent local rate each way, Rhode Islanders will pay the full $4, the Turnpike and Bridge Authority announced. For non-residents with an E-ZPass, the price will climb from 91 cents to $4.
RITBA said it decided to assess fines, due to delays and safety issues that result when transponder mounts are not regulation.
