Newport police say a large fire broke out when a tractor-trailer transporting gasoline ignited in the Ruggles Avenue area.

NEWPORT, RI — A tractor-trailer caught fire in Newport on Monday morning, according to police.

Police said a large fire broke out when a tractor-trailer transporting gasoline broke down and ignited in the Ruggles Avenue area. Police said the fire was extinguished around 6 a.m.

The road was close temporarily, but has since reopened.
