Tripping Hazards Strung Across Newport Bike Path

NEWPORT, RI — City of Newport officials are hoping to learn more after someone strung cord across a popular trail, ostensibly to cause harm and trip people.

On Wendesday, the cords were found on a hiking and biking trail in Miantonomi Park at various heights from ankle to chest height. The trail, located bear the Bike Newport facility, was recently improved.

City workers removed the cords, which are believed to have put there to trip people hiking or biking on the path. Anyone using the path is encouraged to keep an eye out for other tripping hazards and report them by calling (401) 847-1306.
