NEWPORT, RI — Tropical Storm Fay is heading toward New England Friday night, bringing more than an inch of rain to much of Rhode Island. Expect periods of heavy rain and patchy fog throughout the evening, with skies clearing by Saturday morning.

Friday's rain kicks off a week of unsettled weather in Rhode Island, with showers and thunderstorms possible during the weekend and heading into the workweek. Expect a sticky, humid day Friday, with highs reaching the low 80s before showers roll in after 4 p.m.

The storm is expected to hit western New England harder, charting a more direct path along western Connecticut and Massachusetts, before heading north into Canada by Sunday.
