Vikings Face Off Against Islanders in Pre-Season Game

Rogers lost to Middletown, 7-3.

The varsity baseball team squared off against Middletown High School at the Gaudet Middle School on Monday in one of the final pre-season games for both teams.  

Middletown jumped out early and scored five runs.  The starting pitcher for Rogers got off to a shaky start, giving up six runs throughout five innings.  The Vikings pitching eventually settled down and their bats heated up.

The Vikings loaded the bases in the top of the fifth inning and drove home two runs on a single up the middle. Rogers added one more run in the fifth to make it a 6-3 game.

Middletown's Jake Murray pitched his way out of a bases loaded jam, striking out three Rogers batters in a row to end the rally.

Rogers again threatened Middletown's lead in the top of the sixth, putting runners on second and third base with no outs.  The Islanders then struck out the in a row again to end the threat.

Middletown's relief came in to pitch a scoreless seventh inning, ending the game.

The final score was 7-3, Islanders.

Rogers and Middletown will face each other one more time before the start of their regular season in an injury fund game on Saturday at Rogers scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
