📰 News we're reading

1. As students return to school, so do school zone speed cameras (turnto10.com) — North Kingstown drivers racked up more than 2,500 school‑zone speed camera violations in just two weeks after the devices were installed last spring, and they're now being turned back on as students return. With cameras active within a quarter mile of schools statewide, local motorists should slow down in school zones to avoid costly tickets and keep kids safer.

2. Here are the RI Girls Cross Country runners to watch this season (providencejournal.com) — North Kingstown senior Abbie Tighe is spotlighted as one of Rhode Island's top girls cross‑country runners to watch, aiming to cap her Skippers career with another First Team All‑State season. After three stellar years and multiple top‑four state finishes, she's considered a leading challenger to defending champion Cecelia Ludwig as the 2026 season gets underway.

3. Crowds sing along and celebrate as Maroon 5 plays free beach concert hosted by R.I. philanthropist (bostonglobe.com) — North Kingstown police helped Narragansett officers manage the huge crowds at a free Maroon 5 beach concert thrown by philanthropist Joe Healey. Thousands packed the sand and even the water to sing along as Adam Levine led a rare free show, with regional police and state agencies coordinating security so the birthday bash stayed safe and festive.

4. Annual DEM Deer Survey Offers Glimpse into State Population (ecori.org) — North Kingstown had 59 reported deer‑vehicle collisions last year, placing it among the three Rhode Island municipalities with the most crashes. State biologists are using collision reports and a public summer deer survey to gauge herd size, adjust hunting seasons, and reduce conflicts like garden damage, ticks, and roadway accidents that residents here increasingly notice.
