Today's riddle: What is the difference between black eyed peas and chick peas? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. North Kingstown Delays Vote on Pet-Store Puppy Sale Ban (upriseri.com) — North Kingstown's Town Council has postponed its first vote on banning retail dog and cat sales at local pet stores until September 28 so residents can review proposed amendments. After more than ten speakers argued for and against the measure, councilors opted to publish the revised language first, giving you another chance to weigh in before any final decision.
2. North Kingstown Council Hears Post Road Sidewalk Pushback (upriseri.com) — North Kingstown businesses and residents packed a Town Council meeting to argue over the Post Road sidewalk and "road diet" project, which is already under construction. While a business alliance urged councilors not to reopen or scale back the state-funded redesign, some residents blasted rough pavement, traffic changes, and construction impacts as intolerable, prompting town leaders to press RIDOT for winter repairs and updated traffic data.
3. North Kingstown Panel Advances Student Conduct Policy (upriseri.com) — North Kingstown's Policy Advisory Subcommittee has advanced a major rewrite of the student conduct policy that would make out‑of‑school suspension a last resort and clarify appeal rights, sending it to the School Committee for approval. Members also debated how the changes will ripple into school handbooks and how to handle discipline for out‑of‑district students, while holding a revised suicide prevention policy for more staff feedback.
4. Cybertruck owners take a heavy toll on the Pell Bridge. And pay one too. • Rhode Island Current (rhodeislandcurrent.com) — A North Kingstown Cybertruck owner is paying $4 each way on the Pell Bridge because his heavy electric pickup doesn't qualify for the usual 83‑cent E‑ZPass discount. His complaints have prompted local Rep. Robert Craven to question whether Rhode Island's toll structure unfairly penalizes heavier electric trucks, even as the state pushes residents toward cleaner vehicles.
