• North Smithfield Resident Questions Quarry Settlement (upriseri.com) — A North Smithfield council member and Pound Hill Road abutter publicly questioned how the town handled its settlement over the Pound Hill Quarry, saying the agreement wasn't clearly presented or explained to residents. She raised concerns about removing existing vegetation for a berm, the possibility of future quarrying on four disputed acres, and what she sees as a lack of transparency in the mediation process.
   

• North Smithfield Police Station: Grant, Hydrant Snags (upriseri.com) — North Smithfield's police station renovation has hit two key snags: a $500,000 federal dispatch grant the town can't spend until formal DOJ notification arrives, and a nearby hydrant whose low pressure complicates required sprinkler design. Town Administrator Scott Gibbs expects answers on both by the October 5 council meeting, while construction otherwise moves ahead and remains under budget.
