  1. The application period to join the Pawtucket Police and Fire departments have begun! The departments began accepting applications on Feb. 7 and will continue until Mar. 21. Mayor Grebien, Police Chief Tina Goncalves, and Pawtucket Fire Chief William Sisson recently made the announcement, and have provided a list of requirements for each position. (WLNE)
  2. BUPPY PETS and Rhode Island Pet Network are returning to host their third annual "Woof You Be Mine" event. The event will benefit Save One Soul Animal Rescue League by combining live entertainment, adoptable dogs, food and craft beer/wine, and a local vendor market. Head over to The Guild Beer Barn Event Space on Friday, Feb. 11 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for all the festivities. (Pawtucket Patch)

Nicole Lemire, a science teacher at Samuel Slater Middle School in Pawtucket, was one of the 117 individuals and organizations honored by President Joe Biden yesterday as recipients of the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) and Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring (PAESMEM). These awards are the highest national recognition for educators and mentors in this field. Congratulations to Nicole Lemire! (White House)
