Potential school bus strike put on hold amid negotiations (turnto10.com) — A possible school bus strike that would affect Pawtucket students has been put on hold while First Student and Teamsters Local 251 keep negotiating a contract. More than 750 drivers serving Pawtucket and several nearby districts could still walk out, so families may need backup plans if talks fail in the coming days.
3. Pawtucket DHS office closed amid bed bug infestation (wpri.com) — Pawtucket's Department of Human Services office is closed until further notice due to a bed bug infestation, with staff working remotely or from other locations. State officials are working with an exterminator on a comprehensive treatment plan, following similar concerns at the Providence office, though any connection between the two infestations remains unclear.
4. AI continues to grow in the classroom (wpri.com) — Teachers serving Pawtucket, Central Falls, Woonsocket, and Providence are being offered free training on how to use artificial intelligence in their classrooms, including a year of access to Anthropic tools. Organizers say AI is helping Pawtucket-area educators cut administrative work, design richer math and writing lessons, and focus more on direct connections with students.
5. Federal indictment brings new charges against former teacher (turnto10.com) — A former Barrington Christian Academy teacher from Pawtucket has been hit with new federal charges, including sexual exploitation of a minor and child pornography, on top of earlier enticement allegations. Cassidy remains in federal custody while investigators review additional reports involving minors, and prosecutors stress he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
