• Pawtucket plans New Veterans Park Pool with Splash Pad, Pavilion, more – and 2 New Parks (rinewstoday.com) — Pawtucket is launching three major park upgrades, including a complete rebuild of the Veterans Park Pool with a new splash pad, bathhouse, and pavilion by 2028. John Street Park and Oak Hill Park will also see new playgrounds, courts, and landscaping, funded by city bonds and state and federal grants. These projects aim to expand safe, modern recreation options in neighborhoods across the city.
• Classic carousels still operate in R.I., but high costs and climate change may mean end of an era (bostonglobe.com) — Pawtucket's Slater Memorial Park carousel remains one of Rhode Island's fastest and most affordable rides, still just $1 and cherished by local families. The story traces how this 131-year-old Looff carousel and others statewide face threats from climate change, high maintenance costs, and development pressures, while community groups work to preserve them for future generations.
• Former Red Sox skipper Joe Morgan dies at 95 (turnto10.com) — Longtime Pawtucket Red Sox manager Joe Morgan, who led the team through the record-setting 33-inning game at McCoy Stadium, has died at 95. A Massachusetts native, he later managed the Boston Red Sox to two AL East titles. His decades with the organization made him a familiar figure to many Pawtucket baseball fans.
