Today's riddle: Why did the girl pig break up with the boy pig? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Pawtucket School Committee Questions Capital Reserve (upriseri.com) — Pawtucket's School Committee is scrutinizing why the district's capital reserve holds about $11 million, roughly $5 million more than members recall discussing during budget season, while also moving to create a housing-aid revolving fund with the city. The new fund, seeded with reserve money, could return up to seven dollars in state reimbursement for every local dollar spent on school building projects, shaping future facilities and budgets.
2. Man Dies After Being Struck on I-95 Near Pawtucket as Rhode Island State Police Investigate Sunday Night Crash by Exit 40 (centralrecorder.com) — A man was struck and killed Sunday night on I-95 near Exit 40 in Pawtucket, prompting an ongoing Rhode Island State Police investigation. Troopers responded after multiple 911 calls about a pedestrian walking in traffic and later found several vehicles in the breakdown lane and the victim in the center lane. No drivers have been charged yet, and police are still working to identify the man.
3. Shop: Cool Goods You Make Yourself (providenceonline.com) — Pawtucket residents can dive into hands-on creativity this month with bonsai pop-ups at Jordan's Jungle on October 3 and 17, plus a perfume-making class at Providence Perfume Co. on October 17. These workshops offer a chance to learn new skills, make handmade gifts, and take a break from screens while connecting with nearby makers and small businesses.
4. After a quiet opener, can the Rams attract a crowd for the Governor's Cup? (rhodycigar.com) — URI football is playing its home games at Pawtucket's Centreville Bank Stadium during Meade Stadium renovations, but attendance has lagged despite the larger venue. Fans and students face longer travel and extra costs, and the team's recent slide from national rankings isn't helping. With the 44th Governor's Cup coming up, the program hopes Pawtucket can still draw a stronger crowd.
5. Police looking for the public's help after man accused of accosting three females at Market Basket (fallriverreporter.com) — Police say a man accused of accosting three female shoppers at the Market Basket on Newport Avenue in Attleboro fled on a bicycle heading south toward Pawtucket. The suspect is described as a bearded Black or Hispanic man in his 20s or 30s, wearing a navy "Nantucket" hoodie and gray sweatpants. Anyone who recognizes him is urged to contact Attleboro detectives with tips.
