- Eight thousand copies of the 2022 Pawtucket City Calendar are now available at City Hall and several other municipal buildings throughout the city, said Mayor Donald Grebien. The calendar includes contact information for city officials and events happening throughout Pawtucket all year long, such as City Council meeting dates and times, recycling and trash pickup schedules, street sweeping times, and more. This year's calendar also includes work by the winners of Pawtucket's photo contest, themed "Uniquely Pawtucket." (WLNE-TV)
- The Pawtucket Public Library is expanding its Teen Center hours and will now be open from 3 to 8 p.m. The Center is a dedicated study and entertainment space for teens in grades 6 through 12. All week, the Library has held special "winter break" activities for local teens to have fun, socialize, and stay entertained while they're off from school. (Valley Breeze)
- A dozen new Rhode Island state laws will go into effect on New Year's Day, impacting everything from real estate to education in the Ocean State. Some laws that may affect daily life include a new law about single-use plastic straws at restaurants, which can now only be given by customer request, and a new law about required newborn screening tests for certain disorders and conditions. Additionally, residents of Pawtucket and Central Falls will be able to exempt taxes from property bought or leased by a railroad entity for the purpose of boarding or disembarking railroad passengers or to support passenger railroad operations and services.
