  1. James Diossa, the first Latino mayor of Central Falls, has announced his run for Rhode Island general treasurer in 2022. The 36-year-old Democrat, who lives in Pawtucket with his fiancee, Senator Sandra Cano, is the first official candidate to enter the race. In a statement, Diossa said he wants to serve in the statewide office to move Rhode Island forward with "common sense leadership, sound fiscal management, and a commitment to transparency." (WPRI)
  2. A former Pawtucket resident has been indicted and arraigned in U.S. District Court in Providence on charges relating to child pornography and animal abuse videos. Samuel Maigret, 25 of North Attleboro, pled not guilty to a six-count indictment charging him with distribution of child pornography, receipt of child pornography, possession of child pornography, access with intent to view child pornography, distribution of an animal crush video, and transfer of obscene material. Homeland Security Investigations agents and members of the Rhode Island State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force discovered the content during a June 2021 court-authorized search of Maigret's then-residence in Pawtucket and his cell phone.   3. Pawtucket's own Hasbro Inc. has been listed as the sixth biggest company in Rhode Island, coming in just behind FM Global and Citizens Financial Group. This iconic toy manufacturer, which was founded nearly 100 years ago in 1923, pulls in over $4.7 billion in annual revenue and reported a profit of $222 million in 2020. The shares of the company are up more than 7 percent year-to-date and over 2 percent over the last week. (Entrepreneur)
