Here are the top stories today in Pawtucket and nearby communities:

  1. The City of Pawtucket is moving forward with plans for a dog park within Veterans Memorial Park. Community leaders had created a petition and canvassed the Fairlawn neighborhood to determine if there was interest in the park. The City says the design of the park will start this winter, and groundbreaking is anticipated to happen next spring. (WLNE-TV (ABC6))
  2. Gov. Dan McKee has signed legislation authorizing the city to provide upkeep to schools in Central Falls, as well as build a new one. City leaders hope to have the new high school completed in two years, but voters must approve it in order for construction to begin, with the state planning to cover 90 percent of the costs. City Council President Jessica Vega said the bill had been in the works for about a year and students even shared a budget project, highlighting the changes they wanted to see most. (WJAR)
  3. A historic former church condo in Fox Point has hit the market at $549,000. (GoLocalProv)
  4. Niberto Diaz, one of the two men shot while sitting in a car in Providence over the weekend, has died at the hospital. (Nashua Telegraph)
  5. Providence College sent a warning to students on Friday after a recent uptick in crime around the city. (WLNE-TV (ABC6))
