  1. A man was hospitalized after being shot while driving home in Providence. Police responded to 200 Union Ave. on Thursday night and spoke with a woman who said she was attempting to bring her boyfriend home when he was shot in both arms. The victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital; his current condition is unknown. No suspects have been identified, nor have any arrests been made. (WPRI.com)
  2. Fifty detainees and seven staff members at Wyatt Detention Facility in Central Falls have tested positive for COVID-19, Warden Daniel Martin said in a statement Thursday. Martin reports that the facility has implemented additional safety protocols, including ongoing mandatory testing and not allowing cross-pod contact, based on guidance from the Rhode Island Department of Health. The facility houses many people who are being detained by federal immigration authorities. (WLNE-TV (ABC6))
  3. The University of Rhode Island Providence Campus is offering four free leadership learning experiences for prospective students and working professionals. (URI Today)
  4. The Providence City Council moved to reclassify the Community Relations and Diversion Services Major position to a civilian role, rather than a law enforcement one, following criticism of Mayor Jorge Elorza's pick for the position. (The Brown Daily Herald)
  5. Rhode Island Hospital was forced to close part of its emergency department on Thursday because of a nursing shortage. (WJAR)
