Here are the top stories in Pawtucket and nearby communities today:
- The Pawtucket Public Library will be hosting 15-minute reading sessions with Tinker Bell and Wendy the dogs today from 4 to 5 p.m. Children who attend will get an opportunity to practice their reading skills and hang out with two adorable pups. You can sign up in-person in the library's Children's Department or email childrens@pawtucketlibrary.org. (Pawtucket Patch)
- Hockey fans returned to the Dunkin' Donuts Center for the first time in more than a year. The Providence Bruins hosted their first preseason game on Saturday night, marking the first time hockey had been played on the ice of the arena in 588 days. COVID-19 guidelines were still in place and first COVID-19 vaccine doses were offered to unvaccinated fans at an on-site clinic. (WJAR)
- Dino Stroll, an animatronic dinosaur and dragon exhibit tour, is coming to the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence this Saturday and Sunday. Guests can walk through prehistoric times with more than 70 life-like and life-size animatronic creatures, with some standing over 20 feet tall and spanning over 60 feet long. Tickets are now available online. (WJAR)
- Columbus Day festivities returned to Federal Hill in Providence after being canceled last year because of the pandemic. The traditional parade, live entertainment, and lots of Italian food were available to the crowds who came to enjoy and celebrate. (WPRI)
