  1. A group of good Samaritans sprang into action when a mother and her two children became trapped in a Pawtucket apartment building. Carmen Velazquez, who happened to be working in the apartment building next door, said she knew something was wrong when she heard the fire alarm go off. When she and her colleague went outside to investigate, they saw a woman and her two children in one of the windows on the second floor of the building. The two coworkers, as well as Velazquez' uncle, helped ensure that the woman and her children were able to escape safely. (WPRI.com)
  2. Looking to spend time with your furry friend this weekend? The Pawtucket Dog Park Committee is holding Paws in the Park this Saturday at Slater Park. The event starts at 9 a.m. and features a canine agility course and canine costume contest. The agility course will have a large dog and a small dog section. The costume contest has three categories, Monster Mutts, Silver Screen, and Made From Scratch. (The Sun Chronicle)
  3. A Pawtucket man has been sentenced to 33 years in prison for leading an international fentanyl trafficking operation, according to the United States Department of Justice. 4o-year-old Steven Barros Pinto, as well as his partner and 36-year-old Rhode Island man Anthony Santos Gomes, were both sentenced for their role in the operation. The investigation started in 2015 after a North Dakota man died of an overdose, continuing to this day with three Canadian nationals awaiting trial this month. (United States Department of Justice)
