Happy Tuesday, people of Pawtucket! Let's get you all caught up on what's happening locally to start today off on an informed note.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and windy. High: 50 Low: 30.

Here are the top stories in Pawtucket today:

  1. School bus drivers for the Pawtucket school district have voted to authorize a strike, according to Teamsters Local 251. The drivers are joining fellow union workers from the Scituate and Bristol Warren school districts to fight for fair raise and in some cases, a proper contract. According to Frank McMahon, a spokesman for First Student, the company is negotiating with Local 251, and is "hopeful that a fair and equitable agreement can be reached soon." (The Providence Journal)
  2. Pawtucket School Department students will be treated to a Thanksgiving feast on Thursday, Nov. 18, made from all locally grown ingredients. Local farm-raised roasted turkey will be carved to order at the district's six secondary schools and served by members of each school's staff. Pawtucket's food management partner, Aramark, typically offers a traditional Thanksgiving meal to K-12 students for lunch just prior to the holiday break; however, this is the first time the bulk of ingredients will be sourced from Rhode Island or nearby Massachusetts farms. (Pawtucket School Department)
  3. Pawtucket families with teens interested in volleyball are encouraged to sign them up for Starlings Inspire, a new girls' volleyball club specifically serving Pawtucket and Central Falls. If your 13- or 14-year-old girl is interested in trying out on Nov. 20, a parent must attend a meeting tomorrow (Nov. 17) at 6 p.m. at the Pawtucket Family YMCA (20 Summer Street). All players must hold a teen YMCA membership, as well as a USA Junior Volleyball membership. (Pawtucket YMCA)
