Here are the top 3 stories today in Pawtucket:
- Local police have issued an arrest warrant for a Pawtucket man who is accused of fleeing the scene of a fatal car crash on New Years Day. Lincoln Police responded to the scene on Cobble Hill Road in Lincoln early Saturday morning and identified the victim as 34-year-old Nanleomariz Albizu of Providence. Gregory S. - As hospitals throughout Rhode Island endure workforce shortages, the Rhode Island Department of Health updated its quarantine and isolation guidance to allow healthcare workers who test positive for COVID-19 to work during a "staffing crisis." On Thursday, the RIDOH aligned with the CDC's new guidelines of a five-day quarantine period and gave hospitals the OK to bring in COVID-positive workers when "there are no longer enough staff to provide safe patient/resident care." The Department also said hospitals should consider asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic workers first during a staffing crisis. (WLNE-TV)
- This morning, Pawtucket public schools reopened for in-person learning with the same RIDE masking, cleaning, and social distancing protocols in place as before the winter break. In a letter to parents dated Jan. 1, Dr. McWilliams recommended having students tested for COVID-19 at a K-12 site to help mitigate the spread of the virus.
