RIDOT Buys 6 More Acres At Future Rail Station + Shabo Competes
Welcome to the Pawtucket Daily, your source for updates on the most important things happening in town.

Happy Friday, Pawtucket! Let's get this day started. Here's everything going on today in town.
First, today's weather:
Sunny to partly cloudy. High: 68 Low: 48.
Here are the top stories today in Pawtucket:
- The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) recently finalized a purchase of six additional acres of property at the corner of Pine Street and Goff Avenue, near Pawtucket's in-progress commuter rail station. RIDOT already owns two acres from the same lot to develop the rail/transit hub, and this additional land will allow for the development of more parking spaces, which had been a concern among local residents. RIDOT assures Pawtucket that the purchase will ensure adequate parking "on day one of its operation next summer." (The Valley Breeze)
- Pawtucket's own Jeff Shabo, a 58-year-old boxer, will finally get a shot at a championship belt this weekend. On Saturday, Shabo is participating in the third annual Rude Dog Masters World Championships at the Rude Dog Boxing complex in Brooklyn, Connecticut. The tournament was originally planned in early 2020 but was rescheduled several times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. (The Valley Breeze)
- The Pawtucket Public Library now has Litter Clean Up Kits available to "check out" and borrow so local residents can volunteer to pick up trash in the area. The kits are available through a partnership with Keep Blackstone Valley Beautiful, and each includes reflective vests, grabbers, trash bags, and cleaning supplies for four volunteers. - As McCoy Stadium, the former home of the Pawtucket Red Sox, stands idle, the city has been left to wonder about the future of this beloved landmark. Part of the site has been earmarked for the Tidewater Landing development, a complex of homes, shops, and a soccer stadium that was approved by the Pawtucket City Planning Commission this July. Locals speculate as to what could become of the rest of McCoy, whether it becomes the home of a new baseball team or gets torn down and rebuilt as something new. (Brown Daily Herald)
